Nelson Mandela once said, “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” August 15, 1947, was the day when our country attained Independence and broke the shackles of British colonialism after 200 years of struggle and countless sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and every Indian. The land of diversity celebrates its Independence Day every year on the 15th of August with great zeal and enthusiasm across the country. It is an homage paid to the freedom fighters and legends who valiantly fought for the country.
The 73rd Independence Day parade takes place at Red Fort, New Delhi. Independence Day is observed throughout India with flag hoisting, singing the National Anthem and followed by cultural events. .
Jawarharlal Nehru quotes on the eve of Indian Independence -“Tryst with destiny” that motivated millions of Indians. “Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measures but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment, we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity.” Let’s not take our Independence for granted, let’s do our bit to make India a better place, a legacy to live for and a legacy to die for. Even in the hours of glory we should always remember the sacrifices of Indian freedom fighters and cherish the gift of freedom. Let us be a responsible citizen, let us work hard for the development and betterment of our motherland. Jai Hind! Wish you all a very happy Independence Day.
